A new book about the history of the Colony of Atascadero has been released by Arcadia Publishing. Atascadero is a combination of brief articles and many historic pictures. The book was created by local author S.W. Martin.

Atascadero will be added to Arcadia’s Images of America series. Since its inception in 1993, the Images of America series has preserved and shared the history of hundreds of individual communities throughout the country. Each title records a town’s or city's unique story through more than two hundred historic images. Due to the popularity of this series, it has expanded over time to include worthy local and regional historical topics including the examination and celebration of transportation, industry, architecture, ethnic groups and more.

Arcadia Publishing is the leading local history publisher in the United States, with a catalog of more than 7,500 titles in print and hundreds of new titles released every year.

Established in 1993, Arcadia has blended a visionary management approach with the innovative application of state-of-the-art technology to create high-quality historical publications in small local niches.

Arcadia Publishing has expanded its focus on preservation efforts and is now the country’s first major book publisher to achieve the use of 100 percent Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper across its entire book publishing program.

The book Atascadero contains 10 chapters addressing the city’s founder, E.G. Lewis, components of the early community, the construction of the historic City Hall, development of what would become Highway 41 to the Pacific Coast, The Cloisters Resort at Morro Bay, Atascadero Lake Park, Charles Paddock Zoo and the Atascadero Speedway. Historic photographs included in the book were obtained from the Atascadero Historical Society, the Kent Kenney Archives and private parties.

Price: $21.99
